The London South Teaching School Alliance (LSTSA) National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) offers aspiring and serving senior leaders the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to succeed in senior leadership.
The London South Teaching School Alliance National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) offers aspiring and serving senior leaders the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to succeed in senior leadership. Our programmes are led in partnership with UCL Institute of Education, which was ranked number one for education worldwide in the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 World University Rankings, In 2014, the Institute secured ‘outstanding’ grades from Ofsted on every criterion for its education programmes and in the most recent Research Excellence Framework assessment of university research, the IOE was top for ‘research power’.
The programme is aimed at those who are, or are aspiring to become a senior leader with cross-school responsibilities e.g. an experienced middle leader, a deputy head teacher, an assistant head teacher, or other senior staff e.g. a Director of a Teaching School Alliance (TSA).
We will deliver the IOE NPQSL to a group of no more than 25 aspiring and serving senior leaders, tailoring the programme to meet local challenges and your development needs. On our NPQSL you will hear from a range of effective, serving local leaders, accredited as NPQ facilitators, who will showcase and reflect on their different approaches to leadership, while encouraging you to develop your own.
Participants will attend five full day workshops, which include a mixture of theoretical input and also case studies and interactive discussion amongst participants. The workshops will be hosted in different local schools, giving you the chance to experience a range of settings over the course of the programme.
In addition to the five face-to-face sessions detailed below, the NPQSL programme follows a blended learning format. This consists of workplace learning and practice activities, peer and facilitated learning, reading, structured reflection, online learning and a 360 diagnostic assessment.
Participants will need to lead an improvement project in their team, lasting at least 2 terms, aimed at improving pupil progress and attainment and the capability of their team. For the final assessment, participants will submit a written account of the project and supporting documents/material as evidence, demonstrating how they have met the assessment and covering the initiation, implementation and evaluation of the project.
The programme is led by Justin Burtt, Headteacher at Friars Primary Foundation School.
