School Direct - Charles Dickens Primary School

Charles Dickens Primary School has a strong history of ITT

We believe that children deserve the best quality teachers and we are passionate about developing the next generation of outstanding teachers. We have worked with trainee teachers for many years and we fully recognise how much vibrancy, enthusiasm and drive they can offer to a school community. We have trained teachers through the Graduate Teacher Programme since 2003 and we currently work alongside The Institute of Education.

Through our long standing and deeply rooted relationship with The IOE, practitioners from our alliance have undertaken work as programme trainers, support tutors and final assessors in addition to providing placements and coaching and mentoring each year.

The School Direct programme allows top graduates, or those who have been working in a career, to combine training with learning on the job. Quality is of the utmost importance and our class mentors are excellent practitioners who are eager to share their skills, knowledge and practice with the next generation of teachers. This training route leads to QTS (qualified teacher route) and trainees can also opt in to complete a PGCE qualification via this route.

For 2016/17, we have created a training alliance within Southwark with four partner schools - Charlotte Sharman Primary School, Cherry Gardens Special School, Pilgrims’ Way Primary School, Evelina Hospital School.

This year, we are very excited to also be working with Princess Frederica CE School in Brent. Princess Frederica is a school with significant school direct experience and this will be a fantastic opportunity for trainees wishing to train in North London or experience a multicultural school nurturing a Christian faith.

We are currently recruiting for salaried School Direct places across the schools.

Trainees will engage with more than one school during their training and experience a diverse and contrasting range of teaching experiences. Charles Dickens is the lead school and will ensure the consistency of high quality training within the alliance and ensure that the criteria for School Direct are met. We will also provide a range of training opportunities using experts from across the alliance, including highly-skilled school-based practitioners and beyond. Training draws on the unique opportunities offered by our closeness to London’s vibrant South Bank as well as commitment to working with arts organisations across central London.

We are looking for graduates with passion, enthusiasm and commitment to join us in transforming the lives of our students through exceptional teaching. You may also have a passion for working within a specialist setting as provided by Cherry Gardens or The Evelina. Please click on the links below to view each school’s website.
