Outstanding English – Beyond the NQT Year (Key Stage 1 & 2)

A three day course for teachers at the start of their career focusing on effective teaching and learning with an English focus. Each day will consist of a whole lesson observation, taught subject knowledge, practical activities, quick wins and reflection time with colleagues.

All dates in the Spring term

Day 1

KS1 & 2: 28th January 9am – 3.30pm

  • Using Drama techniques to teach literacy effectively.
  • How to use drama to support writing
  • Introducing the gap task . Teachers to trial techniques within their own classrooms

Day 2

KS1 &2: 25th February 2014 9am – 3.30pm

  • Reflecting on gap task
  • How to plan drama into your literacy units.

Day 3

KS1 & 2: 17th March 2014 9am – 3.30pm

  • Using Challenging texts for more able children
  • Language development

Your facilitators will be Sophie (Head of English) and - Jemima Rhys Evans (Lead Practitioner)- both are outstanding experienced teachers with significant experience of mentoring new teachers to outstanding levels of teaching and learning. The course will be supported by observations of outstanding teachers.

All sessions are full days and held on Thursdays at Charles Dickens Primary

Courses are £240 per participant (There are 12 places available for Southwark schools. We are grateful to the Local Authority for subsidising this course)
